Cameron Green
Likened to Andrew Flintoff and dubbed the best Australian batting talent since Ricky Ponting, Cameron Green had no shortage of hype to live up to in the early stages of his career. The towering allrounder, who stands nearly two metres tall, burst onto the first-class scene as an 18-year-old in February 2017 when he took a five-wicket haul against Tasmania in his first Sheffield Shield appearance with Western Australia. His first 30 first-class wickets came at an average of just 22.53 but as stress fractures in his back severely limited his bowling in the ensuing years, it was the strides he made with the bat that vaulted him into national calculations. Green's breakout game came in November 2019 when he hit unbeaten scores of 87 and 121 from No.8 and 9 against Queensland, which saw him promoted up the WA order and subsequently flourish as a top-order player. By the following season he had become a mainstay in WA's top four and, having resumed bowling following months of remedial work on his action, earned a maiden call-up to Australia's Test and limited-overs squads in late 2020.
